Axios Names Sara Kehaulani Goo as Editor in Chief

Aja Whitaker-Moore Promoted to Executive Editor, Kim Schaich Promoted to VP of Editorial Operations

1 big thing: Today, Axios announced the promotion of Sara Kehaulani Goo to Editor-in-Chief and Aja Whitaker-Moore to Executive Editor. The veteran journalists will oversee Axios' 120+ journalist newsroom, 20+ newsletters and three podcasts. 

  • Goo and Whitaker-Moore will work alongside Kim Schaich, who was recently promoted to Vice President of Editorial Operations. Goo will report to Axios co-founder and CEO Jim VandeHei.
  • Nicholas Johnston, who has been Editor-in-Chief of Axios since its founding in 2016, will take on a new role as Publisher to focus on new newsroom initiatives, including the ongoing expansion of Axios Local and other upcoming products. Johnston will continue to be a resource for, and partner with, Goo, Whitaker-Moore and Schaich.

  • Aja Whitaker-Moore joined Axios in 2020 as a managing editor overseeing Axios' business coverage and newsletters, including Axios Markets, Pro Rata and Closer. Prior to Axios, Whitaker-Moore served as the global editor-in-chief of fixed income for the Acuris Group, and the deputy editor in chief at Debtwire.
